FAQ

So… what, exactly, is CanadianMusicians.com all about???

CanadianMusicians.com is basically a resource center and a social networking site to connect everyone in the music industry (professional and non-professional) with everyone else in the music industry. Our objective is to open doors for Canadian musicians from coast to coast to coast, so they can market their skills to venues and record labels, find paying gigs, get scouted, and really get going on their career. On the Industry side, it’s the same thing. We want to enable the Canadian music industry to flourish!

I'm already a member of SOOO many other sites! How is CanadianMusicians.com going to be any more beneficial for me?

We consider it part of our job at CanadianMusicians.com to push your name and your music out where people will find it. By providing a platform for our members through radio and the events calendar, and by aggressive advertising to the general public, we do a lot of the leg-work for you. Not to mention the resource information and marketing tools we provide.

Why should I sign up for an Enhanced Membership when the Basic Level Membership is free?

With an Enhanced Membership, you’re paying for greater services, as you’ll have access to more of our programs and services. Some of these include MyVibes, submitting music to CMR, receiving job postings, and taking part in our major contests.

How likely am I to have my music even heard by someone when I send it in to CMR, let alone have it played on the air?

The staff at CMR listens to EVERYTHING that is sent in by Enhanced Members of CanadianMusicians.com! (Submissions they receive from anyone who is not an Enhanced Member of CanadianMusicians.com may or may not be heard, as Enhanced Members are held in higher priority.) As far as what gets aired, there are standards. CanadianMusicRadio.com is a site for general audience and will not air any offensive material. They also require the music to be professionally recorded and mastered. Having said that, they enjoy playing our members’ music and are willing to take risks where other stations might not. Your style doesn't have to be mainstream and you don’t have to already have your music being played on another station. CMR is excited to help break people into the music industry!

What kinds of things can I include on my profile?

Content you can include on your profile are: Music, Pictures, biography, videos, event dates, influences, instruments, equipment you own, blogs, and contact information for your fans to get in touch with you and buy your music. Basically, you can consider this to be an online Media Package!

I'm concerned about someone stealing my work if it's on my profile. Should I copyright my songs?

That's a big, fat, YES!!! Go to "Copyrights in Canada" to find out more. However, you aren’t required to copyright music before uploading it to your profile. Also, it is not required that you post the entire song; you may want to share just a clip so people get the idea of the song.

How do I market myself and keep current on job postings?

When someone posts a job pertaining to the skills you listed when you signed up, you will be notified. You don't need to search any listings; you will receive a notice in your account. As far as marketing is concerned, send in your recorded material to us for radio play, enter your events into our events calendar, and keep your page looking fresh.

How do I become a feature of the month?

When you submit your songs for radio, send in a bio, send in a 3 - 5 minute video clip of who you are and what you're about. Let us know of any up-coming events – like a CD release party. Show us why Canada just has to know who you are!

Is it better for me to upload my full song, or just a portion?

That truly depends on you. There are things to take into consideration for both sides. If you don’t have your music copyrighted and have concerns of someone stealing your song, you may want to share only a clip of your song. However, if you are able to, I recommend posting the entire song. My reason for this is because members, when creating a playlist, are not likely to include song-clips in their list. They’re going to want to hear an entire song. Also, the value of being on someone’s playlist goes beyond that individual fan listening to your song. Since members’ playlists are displayed, it’s a great way for others who may not have searched you out otherwise to discover you. For example, let’s say that you have a favorite radio DJ whose taste in music you totally agree with… would you not want to check out whoever is on that DJ’s playlist??? AND… how amazing would it be if YOUR music got onto that DJ’s playlist??? And then other fans, just as loyal as you, would want to check YOU out…this could get exciting!

How do I market myself and keep current on job postings?

Be sure that your profile information is correct and current. As an Enhanced member, you’ll be notified when someone posts a job pertaining to the skills you’ve listed in your profile information. Without even searching any listings; you will receive a notice in your account email. As far as marketing is concerned, send in your recorded material to CMR for radio play, enter your events into our events calendar, apply for MyVibes, and keep your page looking fresh.

How do I become a homepage feature?

Enhanced members’ profiles with a minimum 80% complete will be eligible to be featured on the homepage. This is one of the ways that CanadianMusicians.com helps our members to get into the public eye.

What are the parameters for submitting video clips for the CanadianMusicians.com homepage?

Personality is key!!! Keep it upbeat, inspiring, and energetic. We accept videos on anything to do with the music industry. A few examples are… a backstage interview with a roadie or performer, a tour of a music studio, what it’s like at a photo shoot, the rise of a band or artist… etc. You have 3 – 5 minutes to shine. Please keep in mind that this is a site for General Audiences. Video clips MUST be appropriate for all audiences or they will not be accepted.

Does it matter if I'm not a professional yet?

Not at all, just be YOU! Let us help you get to that stage. That's why we're here.

Do people have to know my name or can they find me just by browsing my genre or Industry type?

Members and Non-members, alike, can randomly search artists, bands, and industry using our search engine. Keep your profile information complete and you’ll be in the search ranking.

What are the icons appearing along the lower right side of the members info box on the search results page for?

For your convenience, we have placed these icons for people to know what is included in a Member’s profile. This makes a search much easier. They let you know if the Member has Audio, Video, Gallery, Events and more, as well as whether they’re currently online or not, before checking out their profile.
